We welcomed back Diana Higgins (MBA 1996), Head of Credit at Centrica, to speak to MSc in Banking and Risk students on managing risk in energy trading.

Diana (pictured) is just one of the many alumni who have supported the Business School in recent weeks and engaged with current students.

The third annual Scottish MBA Employability Conference in February involved a number of alumni as speakers including Graham Allison (MBA 2012), Site Leader at Amazon Operations. Following this, he then hosted a group of MBAs at the Amazon offices, which gave the students a fascinating insight into operations.

Ian Jackson (MBA 2016), CEO of Enshored, was visiting Edinburgh from the US and therefore took the opportunity to return to the School and deliver a career lounge to students. He shared his experiences of switching career, moving countries and entrepreneurship. Ian worked in financial technology ventures for 20 years before founding Enshored, a fast-growing outsourcing partner to high-growth companies globally.

Similarly, Elizabeth Harris (MSc in Entrepreneurship and Innovation 2017) from The Dock, Accenture’s global innovation centre in Dublin, provided a career lounge for MSc students, sharing her recent experiences of applying for jobs, and working in the innovation field.

If returning to Edinburgh to share your experiences isn't an option, there are of course other ways that alumni can support students. In February, Dallin Barker (MSc Human Resource Management 2015), Federico Serrano (MSc International Business and Emerging Markets 2017) and Sarah Shields (MSc International Human Resource Management 2016), all currently based in the US, shared their experiences through a webinar with current US students. In particular, they shared their experiences of job hunting while still in Edinburgh, and their knowledge of the US labour market.
